Troubleshooting the Motor On a GPI/GPRO Fuel Pump

Here's some troubleshooting tips on how to get a GPI/GPRO pump running again

Like any other part on a pump, GPI pump motors sometimes don't work properly. Here's some things you can try to get your pump working correctly.

Before you start, check the pump model by checking the nameplate on the pump. Generally this located on the back of the motor or on top of the pump housing.

  • On select models, the safe stop time will activate after 30 minutes of running in bypass. Turn the pump off and allow it to cool down for 30 minutes before attempting to use again.
  • Check to see if the pump is receiving enough electrical power. Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers. Power wires should be inspected for shorts or breaks (exercise caution when doing so), and should have a good connection to your battery. If you have an AC fuel pump, have a licensed electrician inspect power wiring.
  • If the pump motor still doesn't turn on, open the pump and check the rotors, gears and vanes for damage or jams. Turn off the pump and disconnect from power. Remove the pump cover plate and inspect the inside of the pump for any obstructions. If you need to replace a rotor, gear or vane, use the links below to go to the walkthrough on how to do that with your pump type
