How To Clean or Replace Bypass Poppet on A GPI G20 Fuel Transfer Pump

Clean/replace the poppet within the GPI G20 pump with this step by step process


Clean or replace a bypass poppet within your GPI G20 Fuel Transfer Pump with this simple to follow guide. Remember to wear properly fitting PPE when doing this task!

  1. Turn the pump off and disconnect from power
  2. Use a 5 mm hex wrench to remove the cover plate from the pump
  3. Use a 10 mm hex wrench to remove the pipe plug from the cover plate
  4. Remove the bypass poppet spring, o-ring, bypass poppet and orifice seal
  5. Inspect the o-ring on the poppet (part number: 162505-01) for damage, swelling and loose fitting
  6. Coat the o-ring with light grease and reinstall
  7. Use a clean cloth to wipe the poppet components
  8. Place the poppet components back into the pump cover plate
  9. Tighten the pipe plug in place
  10. Reinstall the cover plate onto the pump housing. Make the o-ring is securely fitted before tightening plate into place
