Cleaning and/or replacing a bypass poppet on a GPI EZ-8 Fuel Transfer Pump is simple. Here's how to do it.
When it is time to clean or replace a bypass poppet in your EZ-8 Fuel Transfer Pump, this step-by-step list or the video above will get you through the task. Remember to wear properly fitting PPE when doing this task!
- Turn off the pump and disconnect from power
- Use a 7/16" hex wrench to remove the cover plate
- Remove the gears from the pump cavity
- Push down on the poppet until the o-ring is exposed, then remove the o-ring with a small screw driver and inspect it for wear, swollenness, damage and proper fitting
- Use needle nose pliers to pull out the poppet and spring from the bypass cavity. Inspect those parts for wear, debris or damage
- To reassemble, place the poppet in the spring, then place them both in the poppet cavity in the top of the pump
- Compress the poppet into the housing until it is in the lower chamber, then slip the o-ring over the poppet head. Make sure o-ring is well seated
- Push on the poppet to make sure it moves freely
- Replace the gears and make sure they turn freely
- Make sure the o-ring on the cover plate is securely in place, then reinstall the cover plate onto the pump housing
