Troubleshooting GPI Pump Motor That Stalls While In Bypass

If your GPI Pump stalls, here's all you can do to correct the situation.


If your GPI pump is stalling in bypass mode, try these things.

Before you start, check the pump model by checking the nameplate on the pump. Generally this located on the back of the motor or on top of the pump housing.

  • On select models, the safe stop time will activate after 30 minutes of running in bypass. Turn the pump off and allow it to cool down for 30 minutes before attempting to use again.
  • Check to see if the pump wiring is properly connected to a good electrical power source. Use caution and avoid electrical shocks. Do not touch exposed or frayed wires. For increased safety, turn off the pump and unplug it from its power source while checking over the pump. If you have an AC fuel pump, have a licensed electrician inspect power wiring.
  • Check the bypass poppet, rotor, vanes and gears for binding, wear or damage. If you need to replace a rotor, gear or vane, use the links below to go to the walkthrough on how to do that with your pump type
