How to winterize your bulk pumps

Eight steps to store and protect your bulk pumps over winter

We're getting close to winter and you'll need to winterize your bulk pumps when you are done for the year. Here's a quick rundown on how to winterize your bulk pump:

  1. Close the main tank and padlock the handle shut
  2. Connect a water tank to the 2" stainless part F on the inlet side of pump. WARNING: Do not connect city water or a freshwater well to this as contamination will occur to your fresh water supply.
  3. Fill the water tank with at least 15 gallons of 50/50 antifreeze and water mixture
  4. Open the pump inlet valves to purge air from the system before starting the pump. WARNING: All air must be removed or pump seal failure will occur.
  5. Connect the discharge hose valve to a rinsate tank for proper disposal of chemical
  6. Start pump and slowly open the discharge valve
  7. Once chemical has been removed and all lines are full of antifreeze, turn off the pump, close the pump inlet valves and dispose of the rinsate properly
  8. Your system is now ready for storage
